AKRON - The Boardman High School boys track team sent three athletes to the March 4 Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches state indoor championship meet at the University of Akron.
Representing the Spartans were seniors Chris Butler and George Wallace and junior Justice Jama.
Butler competed in both the 1,600- and 800-meter runs after qualifying to the state meet by running career-best times of 4:24 in the 1,600 and 1:57 in the 800 during the Spire Scholastic Showcase in Geneva in mid-February.
At the state finals, Butler finished 16th in the 800-meter with a time of 2:06.49, and finished eighth in the 1,600-meter with a time of 4:23.04. Butler made All-Ohio status by placing in the top eight in his event.
Wallace competed in the shot put after qualifying to the state meet by throwing a career-best throw of 49' 11.5'' earlier this winter at a meet at Youngstown State University. At the state championships, he finished 18th with a distance of 46' 4''.
Jama competed for the second consecutive season at the state indoor championship in the high jump. Jama earned his state spot after jumping a career best 6' 2'' two weeks ago at a meet held at The University of Akron. He finished 11th at state with a height of 6' 0''.
