STEM week offers hands-on learning

Science, technology, engineering and mathematics - STEM - is a key issue in creating the workforce the country needs for the future and in Canfield, it starts in elementary school.

Students at Hilltop Elementary School participated in STEM week March 6-10. The students in grades K-4 participated in hands-on experiments, learned how technology has progressed and was exposed to a variety of STEM fields.

The students experienced activities ranging from making tinfoil boats and salt volcanos to a giant Minecraft game.

Students also learned about the evolution of video games. The interactive display featured a variety of games from Atari to PlayStation2 as well as some older handheld games that are not electronic.
