On Monday (April 30), Poland High School senior Alexis DeMain signed her letter of intent to continue her soccer career at Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, W.V. this fall. It will represent the continuation of a long career on the soccer field.

Alexis began playing soccer at the age of five with the Poland Youth Soccer League. She grew to love the sport and continued playing through high school, including some time with a travel team as well.

At PSHS, Alexis was a two-year letter winner and in the present season was team captain and was named AAC All-Conference and Defensive Player of the Year.

"She is a great kid," said travel team coach Greg Maurer, who coaches Alexis from fourth through eighth grade. "She is like family, is an excellent defender and has the biggest throw-in of any player I've seen. She is a smart player and will do very well at Wheeling."

Alexis said she plans to pursue an accounting degree at Wheeling Jesuit and looks forward to playing soccer.

"Wheeling is a good fit for my personality," she said. "It's a family atmosphere."

That fit is perfect as she said she will miss her Poland teammates and being part of the Bulldog sports family.
