Austintown Alumni Association hands out $6,000
July 2, 2019

Back in May, the Austintown Alumni Association handed out six $1,000 scholarships to Fitch High School seniors during a special awards ceremony. Earning the scholarships were Kaitlin Sciortino, Maegan McLaughlin, Ramond DuVal, Faith Marsico, Daniel Newman, and Alec DeBaldo.

The goal of the association is to award scholastic scholarships to deserving seniors. It also provides classroom instructional assistance as well as alumni and reunion support, but the scholarships top the list.

The six scholarships are an average for the association, according to publicity chairperson Bonnie Pannunzio. She said it dates back to when the association was formed back in 1997.

To earn one of the scholarships, a student first has to apply through the senior counselor's office, where they can learn the criteria to qualify.

As for where the funds come from, Pannunzio said there are several sources.

"[The association raises the funds] through donations, new memberships, an annual raffle and an alumni shirt sales," she said.

Presently the association has around 375 members.
