The Boardman Board of Education handled some final details at the July 30 board meeting in preparation for the start of school on Aug. 26. For teachers, the work kicks into high gear on Aug. 19 with in-service days, then prior to the following Monday, Boardman Schools will have one special event on the calendars.

"On Aug. 23, the Boardman Band will be at Progressive Field for the Cleveland Indians game," said Superintendent Tim Saxton.

On a different note, the board had to approve Mastriana Counseling Services for St. Charles School. Saxton said it is all about how funding for the services is delivered for that school. The funds for St. Charles has to go through the local public school system, which is Boardman Local. Saxton said Boardman is just a pass through for it.

On the issue of a school psychologist, the board approved a shared services agreement with Poland schools. Saxton said under the agreement, Boardman and Poland share the cost and Poland will have the psychologist two days and Boardman will have three days.

In other business:

The board approved the parental contracts that pay parents in lieu of transportation when that transportation is deemed impractical. Saxton gave the example of Ursuline as impractical.

The board approved Frank Zetts to serve as delegate to the Capital Conference and John Landers as alternate.
